EWS is BMW's 'brand' for their immobilizer systems. E39's have version 3.3. There is an "EWS Module" that is the brains of the system, however it talks to other parts of the car as well. DME is BMW speak for the engine computer aka ECU in generic car-world. DMZ is "Demilitarized Zone". It is irrelevant to this conversation.
Turned out to be my Gear Selection Sensor going bad, I wasn't getting an SMG sensor code though, autologic was giving errors "failed shift" or something similiar. The Gear Position Sensor is located near the back of the transmission above the drive shaft. PN: 23412229792. #2 in the below diagram.
But our Sparkling Graphite Metallic M3 did indeed win us over. For less than $70,000, the M3 bolts from a standstill to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds and turns the quarter-mile in 12.7 seconds at 113 mph

Repeat until oil starts coming out of the filler hole (its full - at least at this angle the car is at). Figure out a way to get all three bottles in since thats the right amount. You may need to lower the car and then jack the front up to get it all in there. Replace the filler plug and torque to 45 lbs.
There's a temp solution that *might* do the trick. Take the door lock pin out, take a can of WD40 with the straw attached on it, put the straw in parallel with the door pin shaft, insert it as down as possible and spray a generous amount of WD40. The WD40 will follow the door lock shaft and eventually get into the actuator.
Also, you should be aware the M3 moved up in size quit a bit since the e46. The M2 is the spiritual successor to the e46 and the M3 is somewhere between what a 3 and 5 used to be.
